Kanai is a gated coastal reserve of mangrove and beach north of Playa del Carmen, entered from Highway 307. The St. Regis Kanai Resort sits inside it, at the end of a private access road rather than on a public street. Arrivals at Cancún International Airport are met inside the hall with a name sign, and the flight is tracked so a delay does not strand you. Two hours of waiting are included, which covers the days when the immigration queue backs up. The drive is 55 km and takes about 55 minutes. For two people or a small family a Suburban seats up to 5 with luggage, and because the booking is private the car does not divert to another property before yours.
