Che Playa is a hostel in central Playa del Carmen, a few streets back from Quinta Avenida and the town beach. Hostel guests are the ones most likely to be talked into a shared van at the airport, and this is the one leg of a budget trip where sharing rarely pays. The distance is real: 55 km from Cancún International Airport, about 55 minutes, and a van that works through a list of stops turns a straightforward evening into a long one. A private car with a driver holding your name at arrivals goes directly to the door. Flights are tracked, which matters if you land after dark on a cheap late slot. Note that pickups after 22:00 carry a small night surcharge.
