How far is Cabo San Lucas from Los Cabos Airport?

How to get from Los Cabos Airport to Cabo San Lucas

Los Cabos Airport sits north of San Jose del Cabo, and Cabo San Lucas is at the far end of the strip, so this drive crosses the whole Tourist Corridor. The road is the Transpeninsular Highway, Mexico Federal 1, which runs between the two towns with the Sea of Cortez on your left for much of the way. There is also a toll autopista alongside it, extended through to Cabo San Lucas in 2015, and drivers use whichever is moving better. Tolls are included in the price you pay us, so the choice is the driver's and it does not change your fare.

We schedule 45 minutes. The corridor is where the time moves: it is the stretch lined with resorts, golf courses and the turn-offs to them, and in the afternoon the junctions back up as people head into Cabo for dinner. Arrivals in the middle of the day are usually the clean run. Coming back the other way for a morning flight, the same junctions are the reason we build a wider gap into the pickup time than the raw drive suggests.

A private transfer is the direct version: your driver meets you in arrivals, the price is fixed before you fly, and you go to the hotel door. Shared shuttles are sold at the airport and cost less per person, with the trade-off that they call at several hotels along the corridor before yours, which on this route can mean a long tail on the journey. Taxis are available outside the terminal. A rental car is the option that makes most sense here if you intend to move around, because the corridor is spread out and the beaches, the marina and San Jose are all separate stops rather than one walkable centre.

There is no useful public bus from the airport itself. Local buses run between San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas along the corridor, so they are a way of getting about once you are settled, rather than a way of getting off your flight and to a hotel with luggage.
