El Taj is a condo-hotel on the beach at the north end of central Playa del Carmen, near Quinta Avenida. Condo units mean longer stays and, usually, more bags than a hotel room's worth. The transfer from Cancún International Airport runs 55 km in roughly 55 minutes, and the last stretch is town driving, one-way streets and pedestrian crossings, which a shared van solves by parking somewhere convenient for the van. A private car goes to the building. Your driver meets you in arrivals with a name sign and has your flight number, so a delayed landing moves the pickup instead of forfeiting it. Two hours of airport waiting are included in the fare, along with tolls and taxes.
